The Rise of Self-Publishing

The New York Times Magazine of April 26, 2010 carried an interesting article – ‘The Rise of Self-Publishing’ – by Virginia Heffernan. It’s well worth several minutes of your time to read and includes a number of useful links if you’ve ever considered self-publishing. Heffernan claims that the negative association with self-publication is receding with the rise in the number of new authors, but she also happily notes that the ‘kookiness’ associated with select topics for self-publication remains.

The entire article is available online at the NYT Magazine website.

  1. Interesting article. Thank you for sharing. Found your blog cruising through random WordPress links and tags.

I’ve been reading a lot of self-published works lately and have to say I’ve found some real gems. I guess the question is whether you are a writer because you want to share your thoughts or whether you are a writer because you want to be ‘chosen’ to be in a select competitive group.
