Two-Minute Poetry Break – stuck by Avram Ohm

stuck

heads bowed like so many
cattle funneled to the
slaughterhouse,
we stand firmly and
securely fastened,
admiring the depths
of the muddy ditch,
blind to the pastoral plains
gracing either side

straining towards
an imaginary destiny
and inevitable fall
of a final miserable curtain that only
cruel fate and laughing minstrel Gods
could have bequeathed,
it finally hits us

Ah, to hell with it
It’s time for a drink
